Personal Statement

My name is Garrett Long.  Thank you for visiting my NCSA soccer profile.  In this snapshot, I want to introduce college coaches to who I am and what it took for me to get here.  Then I want to share the vision I have for my future in soccer and the goals I have set to make my vision a reality.

Currently, I am a 6’3” junior forward who transferred from Waynesville High School to School of the Osage.  I weigh 153 lbs. and run the mile in 5 minutes and 40 seconds.  This is my third high school season as a varsity starter.  As you navigate my profile, you will see my club history and experience.  I am a versatile player.  From the age of four, I have played every position on the pitch in all formats including 3v3, futsal, indoor and full sided outdoor soccer.  I am confident I am an excellent candidate because of my willingness to play where I’m needed with intensity, physical ability and technical skill.  I take pride in being a team player and creating scoring opportunities.

People outside South-Central Missouri do not appreciate the time and commitment athletes put in to being competitive in soccer due to geography.  I have invested that time and commitment which is a testament to my dedication for the game of soccer.  I desire to play with teammates who share my ambition to win and are driven to succeed.

I will graduate in 2020 and look forward to playing collegiate soccer.  I am a solid academic student and strive for both academic and athletic accomplishments.  My life has always revolved around soccer, so I want to pursue soccer as a career.  I strive to play professionally but realize there will come a day when I am sidelined.  At that point, I will continue with soccer in some capacity.  While I have not settled on a major yet, I believe coaching, sports management, or sports business-related degrees are what I will gravitate to.

What sets me apart from other recruits you will consider? I know who I am and where I come from. I have not had the opportunities and exposure to compete in development academy environments, but I am confident that I can, and I welcome the competition.
