Personal Statement

~~I am currently a starter for Charlotte United FC One7. This year, I competed in the PDL National cup tournament where I have proven myself to be on the same field with the best in the country. But One7, more than just a soccer club, is also a ministry that has taught me to be giving, tenacious, and skillful in the gifts that God has given me. Through this ministry, I have learned life skills that have benefited me on and off the field. While I play for one7, I also volunteer for one7 whether it’s through tutoring children with their reading stamina, cleaning up the community, or sometimes taking food and the word of God where it is most needed. One7 is a huge part of who am and who I aspire to be. It has aided me to develop my soccer skills as well as my leadership abilities.
I also play varsity for Grainger High School. My school team stayed in the top 5 rankings through-out the season, and we made it to the third round of NCHS 4-A state playoffs this year. Though I mainly play as an attacking mid-fielder, I sometimes play defense too. I have a variety of skill, and I am great with the ball at my feet. Before One7, I was an average soccer player with a big ego. I remember my family being awed by my talent when they saw me play for the first time at the age of 8. I let this raise my ego, but as soccer got more serious I realized the competitive talent there was (is).  Now, I don’t think I am the best, but I try my hardest to be.
My biggest dream is to play at a collegiate level. I am aware that there are things I need to improve on in order to play at this level, and I am working hard on this as we speak. Recently, I sat down with my counselor to talk about improving my GPA. I hope to raise my GPA to a 3.0 at the end of this semester with the current grades I have right now, and only keep on increasing it from here on out. Being an undocumented student and coming from a low-income family, will make paying for college difficult, but as I know now not impossible. Which is why, I will give it my best to further improve as a student and as a soccer player, so that one day I can demonstrate my talent in a division I or II soccer team.
