Personal Statement
I have been playing soccer since I was 5 years old, it is by far my favorite sport..by far my most favorite thing to do! But I will get back to soccer in a minute, I would like to tell you about a big event in my life first, an event that has improved my soccer game like nothing I have ever done before.
Last summer I attended a 28 day Outward Bound program on the coast of Main. The program is geared toward Sailing and Service. For 28 days on a 30 foot open sail boat, myself and 12 others fought small craft advisory, water temperatures in the low 40's, long hours of rowing, freeze dried food and attempting sleep lying across ores in a sleeping bag, in order to arrive at the destinations along the coast to preform the service work that these people really needed. We spent hours building bridges and walkways in National Parks and cleaning up waterways. It was the most agonizing...and fulfilling 28 days of my life. I literally feared for my life on more than one occasion, and I learned more about myself than I ever thought possible. After that trip, I know what it means to push myself, and I know I will be one of the hardest working people you will ever recruit! I have no doubt that I will be an asset on your team.
For the last 13 years I have played soccer with one amazing team after another. Although I felt like I was a big part of the team, and a team leader, my Outward Bound trip has shown me now how much more of myself I could have brought to those teams, I didn't know what I didn't know. Now I do and I look forward to bringing that knowledge to your team!
My senior year I stopped playing with the league team and I am playing with my school team. I really like the competitiveness and level of ability at the high school level, I am very excited about the prospect of playing in college and learning new skills and techniques.
I have always enjoyed great relationships with my coaches as well as my teammates, and many of these people are still my closest friends. I am very coachable and I work very hard to maintain and develop my skills. I pride myself with my ball handling skills and I have always been one of, if not the fastest runners on my teams.
I have spent my last two years of high school in a college setting where I attend at least two college classes a semester. I attend Greensboro Middle College, and have a 4.0 grade average this year. I enjoy school, and I already feel comfortable on a College campus. I am looking forward to spending time on your campus.
