Personal Statement
Enrolled at Wake Forest University, January 2010; ACC Honor Roll; ESPN RISE First Team All American Forward, 2009; Top Drawer Soccer: Top 100 Recruits Class of 2010; USSF U17 National Pool, Training Camps and Select Team; Gatorade Player of the Year Nominee, 2010.
I am a second semester Freshman enrolled at Wake Forest University where I practiced and played in exhibition games in the Spring of 2010. However, at this time I am looking to transfer after having sought and received my release from the Wake Forest Team. As with my initial search, I am interested in attending a college that will challenge me both academically and athletically. Academically, I have a GPA of 3.17 from last semester and was placed on the ACC Honor Roll.
I believe I am best suited for a position at midfield and forward, but I am a versatile player and can in various positions on the field. During my 5 year Varsity HS career, I played both forward and center-mid. I played center-mid at the Nike Friendlies while on the National Select Team, following my USSF National Camp training at Bradenton, FL under the direction of coach Wilmer Cabrera. In the spring of 2010, I was named a starting forward on the ESPN rise All-American team. In addition, I have played forward and wing since 2005 on ENY State ODP and also for the Region 1 ODP team. I finished my HS career with the school-record of having scored 34 goals/71 points in my senior season and led my team to the Sectional Finals in 2009, where they had not been for 25 years. I scored 70% of the goals scored by my team in my senior year while earning Journal News Westchester/Putnam "Player of the Year." On my Academy team, BW Gottschee, (now called the Cosmo East Academy)I was called upon to play forward, left and right wing, and right back, depending upon the needs of the team. Similarly, at Wake Forest, I practiced and played in a variety of positions.
Some of my greatest assets are pure athleticism, explosive speed, a high work rate both during games and at every practice, as well as the power and accuracy of my shots and passing. I keep myself physically fit whether in season or out with constant work-outs and running. My vertical jump has been measured as high as 31" and I have repeatedly performed 29 pull ups during testing at Wake. I believe I am up for the challenges of playing at the highest competitive level possible and can become an immediate asset on my team.
I have earned the respect of my teammates and coaches due to the demands and high work ethic I place on myself both on and off the field. I am a leader on the field and am always playing with and for the team. When I was appointed Captain as a sophomore for my HS (the youngest in HS history), I was sensitive to the fact that there were primarily upper-classmen on the roster. During that year, I primarily led by example. As I matured, so too did my style of leadership. During the solid three year period as Captain, I was able to garner the respect and admiration of my teammates whether they were older or younger. I also had the fortune of being named Captain of the State ENY ODP team and twice was named Captain of two different Maccabi teams.
Right now, I am unsure of my exact career goals or major; however, I intend to pursue graduate school in law or business at the right time. The right time will depend upon whether I have earned an invitation to the MLS combine in my senior year of college, as I have aspirations to play professional soccer. I am enthusiastic about finding a University where my passion in life, soccer, will be the most rewarding, fulfilling experience possible. I will travel anywhere for the right school and the right opportunity. I intend to make my coach proud of his decision to recruit me.
Most Sincerely,
Justin
