Personal Statement
My name is Hans Von Bertrab, I play center back, or if my team is losing, I will assume the role of defensive midfielder. My college goals are to be a good student and do well in my classes; this task will not be easy to accomplish because my other goal is to play Division I soccer. I am sure that if one day I am able to make it to a college soccer team, the team will be able to get far when we all learn how to play together and show everyone that even if no one believes the team can make it, by working together we can.
Throughout my life I have been invited to play on different outstanding teams in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico. I was even invited to play for the under-15 Santos Laguna team; Santos Laguna is a Mexican professional team known worldwide. During the days I was invited to watch how the trainings were really competitive but, the club doesn’t care about the education of its players. Some times while I was in class the coach would call me and tell me that I had to be at the field ready to train in 20 minutes. So after discussing my academic concerns with the coach and my parents, I came to the conclusion of not stay there and to better concentrate on my academic future.
After only a few weeks an old friend of mine, which I used to play soccer with when I was a little kid, invited me to play soccer for the semi-professional team he was in. The starting center back had an injury in training, so he remembered about me and called me. To my surprise the people I was playing with were four or five years older than I. With hard work, courage and not showing fear to the opposing team, I became the starting center back for the first team.
A characteristic that will separate me from other players is that I already have the experience of playing on team with high standards and immense requirements. Although there are players who that become scare when the team visits other cities and the other team has a big crowd, I love all the shouting and the name-calling. It shows me that I am doing my work correctly and that the other team is giving up. My family has always supported my decisions concerning soccer, but always with the conditions that I will keep good grades, or I will not be able to play.
I hope that you consider me for your school; I know I will make a great addition to your team. I will always give my 100% on the games and on the trainings. I will try to meet the expectations that the team has and even try to exceed them
