Personal Statement
" I am my only limit" is what I've learned from the game of soccer. At an early age, my family and I moved to the Netherlands because my father is in the Army. In 2005, I began playing soccer with the local national club, MSP 03 Toernooi. Despite being the only American on my team, I was still able to learn the fundamental skills of the game. Also, I was able to learn the meaning of teamwork and developed friendships with other players from diverse backgrounds. In 2007, I played in my last tournament with MSP 03 Toernooi and was named Beste Player for my age group; I still have that trophy to this day. In 2008, our family returned to Ft. Bragg, NC and I had the opportunity to play soccer for the Fayetteville Force, U-10 as a Midfielder. Throughout middle school, I continued to play soccer and was selected for the Coach's award during 2013-2014 spring season and the Captain's award for the 2014-2015 season.
When I transitioned to high school, I tried out and was placed on JV for a couple of games. Although my statue as a player was smaller than other players, I didn't let that stop my drive to play the game I had grown to love and live to play. I continued to work hard and learn from my coaches. After four games on JV I was selected to be a starting varsity striker. This year was a highlight for me, because I was able to overcome the challenges of transitioning into high school as well as deal with the deployments of my father. I developed as a player on the field but also was able to maintain my grades in the classroom. I was very excited and humbled to receive, "Rookie of the Year" for the 2015-2016 fall season. My sophomore year brought new obstacles as well, but I continued to stay focused in the classroom and grow as a player on the field. At the end of this season, I received the "Scholar Athlete Award". In January, I began to play soccer for Liberty Point Soccer Club, and I was honored to be named captain for the team, while playing in the position of Central Midfielder. Soccer has been such a huge part of my life that I wish I adequate words to express how much I love the game. Being able to play the sport has taught me many life skills such as discipline, commitment, sacrifice, leadership, teamwork, and the importance of being coachable. I believe these characteristics will help me to continue to be successful in the classroom and on the soccer field as a collegiate student athlete. Again, I reiterate that " I am my only limit"
