"Talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish." - author unknown
"Success isn't a result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire." -Arnold H Glasow
These two quotes have inspired me in life. I have had to learn to overcome adversity by finding the fight inside myself.
My family moved often as a young child due to work and my father's military service. I attended three different elementary schools and two different middle school. I was diagnosed with extreme dyslexia at the end of my first grade year. This was the first time that I had to learn to give 110% of myself for myself. In order to overcome my learning disability I repeated second grade and worked harder than my peers. I went to school early and stayed late to work with a tutor. I spent 3 days a week during my summer break working with tutors. I learned then that hard work pays off. I was retested at the end of fourth grade and was told that I no longer have dyslexia tendencies.
Due to moving and having a learning disability I found that it was difficult to make friends. This led to me being the target of bullying. This was the time in my life that I submersed myself in soccer. Soccer became my safe zone. This has led me to become the safeguard for other students that find themselves in a similar situation.
My experiences have allowed me to become a leader on and off the field. As a Freshman that was new to the district, I earned my spot as a starting center back for Frisco Heritage High School Varsity team and earned Newcomer of the Year. As a Sophomore I was awarded All-District, Second Team All-Region and defensive player of the year. My goal for my Junior year is to be team captain for my high school team and to earn the team leadership award. I also play club soccer for FC Dallas as a center back and forward, where I also serve as a team captain.
I have maintained a 3.2-3.5 GPA (with a goal to improve) while playing competitive for both club and school and also taking Advanced History classes. 110% is what I represent.
