Personal Statement
I am currently entering my senior year at Burrillville High School in Rhode Island. I have been playing soccer since I was three years old and have a great deal of passion for the sport. I have played recreational, travel and school soccer. In my freshman year of high school, I also participated in Track and Field.
My first competitive coach, Kevin Corvese, helped me realize that I could be a better player. It was his influence that inspired me to continuously train and improve my soccer skills. Today, I am a versatile player who is utilized in a number of positions on my high school varsity and club teams. I can be effective at several positions and will be moved depending upon the condition of the game and where my coaches feel I may be needed the most. On my high school varsity team, I primarily played center back this year but have been moved to attacking mid, holding mid, and center forward on various occasions. Alternatively, on my club team, I predominantly play striker and attacking midfield but will be moved to center back as needed.
The wins and the losses have shaped the player I am today. This past fall season my high school team didn't advance past the quarterfinals in our playoff bracket. This was extremely disappointing as last year we made it all the way to the final game of the state championships and lost in overtime. These losses were hard for all of us. In the end though, the losses makes us all that more determined for next year and we will try even harder to earn that title.
I have a very competitive nature on the field, can read the game well and work hard to create opportunities for myself and my teammates on the field. One of my strongest attributes is my ability to control the ball at a fast pace with or without pressure while making quick passes to my teammates. Joining Track and Field in the spring of my freshman year has greatly improved my speed. As a freshman, I took first place in the 400M at Junior Varsity states and also hold the high school record in that event with a time of 51.21. I also run the 200M, 4X100 and 4X400 relays and hold high school records in those events as well.
Attending college has always been in my future and is what continues to motivate me to keep my grades up. I have an open mind regarding where I want to attend and know that I will end up at a school where I can become a more educated individual. Having the opportunity to also play soccer at such a competitive level would be an amazing experience.
