Personal Statement

I have been playing soccer since I was 5 and over the years have grown to truly love the game.   I view myself as a highly competitive and passionate student/athlete.  I have proved that I have the ability to handle my academics along with my extracurricular activities.

Throughout high school, I have put a lot of effort into my schoolwork and have challenged myself with many advanced courses. In addition to my schoolwork, I also have the responsibility of playing on two soccer teams, Wakeland Varsity, Solar Pre-Academy and now with my new team, Solar USSF 15/16 Academy.   Both demand a lot of time and dedication, with the USSF Academy requiring a substantial amount of travel.

My ability to be a leader, I would consider, is one of my stongest attributes. I have shown great leadership in many instances but I feel it is dominant in my involvement in teamwork.  As a leader on the soccer field, I am the “guiding voice” to a team of 10 young men throughout the entire game.  In addition, I have been looked to as a leader and have taken responsibility for various group projects, both in school and outside of school.  Many of these activities happen outside of the school hours and requires the commitment of ones personal time.  I am always willing to sacrifice personal time to help benefit the group.   I believe these are the most important parts of being a leader; the ability to sacrifice ones needs for others as well as being respectful and encouraging to those around.

I am an individual who can balance both academics and athletics.  I have proven to coaches and teachers that when I am presented a challenge or a difficult task, I have the confidence and endurance to be successful.  There are other great qualities in my character such as hard working, goal orientated, team player and dedication.  Even though I may not be a straight “A” student, I feel that I have worked hard to balance my academics and athletics which has allowed me to become a well-rounded student/athlete.
