Personal Statement

As a multi-sport athlete (soccer, football, and basketball), I have learned and applied several attributes that have help me in life, and on the field.  These attributes include; being a leader, hard work, endurance, and with hard work I can accomplish anything. Through sports, I have learned how to be the best person I can be.  With a commendable 3.8 GPA, I am not only dedicated on the field but also in the classroom.

My work ethic and the constant pursuit of getting better has led me to train with coaches from FC Barcelona and Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake All-Star Goalkeeper). These experiences have not only helped me grow as a player, they have exposed me to top level competition at FC Barcelona and Real Salt Lake academy. My opportunities to train with international coaches and teams has improved my skill on a global level. To improve my goalkeeping ability, I train weekly with college coaches and players. My trainings with TIP Goalkeeping and Galicia Goalkeeper Academy have helped immensely to become the player I am and has allowed me to take my game to the next level. These trainings have helped me win local and multi-state tournaments, along with being elected captain of my club soccer team, Summit FC, three years in a row.

In the classroom, I have focused my attention on the classes needed to be a Division I athlete. As in sports, I challenge myself in my education.  I do this by taking upper-level math and history classes. I am also enrolled in college level classes to get college credits before I graduate from High School.

  • Letter of Recommendation Date: March 1, 2024 Dear Recruiter, I had the great pleasure of coaching and working with Will in my role as a strength and conditioning coach. I am proud to offer my recommendation of Will Bigham to whom I have personally known for the previous three years as one of my athletes at our performance facility, The Weight Room LLC. During my relationship with Will I have experienced an individual who shows characteristics that will allow him to flourish in your athletic program. Will’s personality and work ethic is unmatched and always does more than asked, carries himself in a polite, confident and respectable manner at all times. In addition, Will is an honest person who has always presented himself with a humble and positive character. The small details, such as showing up in a punctual manner, bringing positive effort, and a leader for other athletes through his examples at The Weight Room. I highly recommend you recruit Will Bigham into your athletic program. I am confident they will make an excellent addition to your culture. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you should require and further information. Best, Jose Patino M.Ed. CSCS Telephone: 801-644-8712 E Mail: [email protected]

  • Letter of Recommendation for Will Bigham To whom it may concern, I’m writing this letter to recommend Will Bigham as an athlete and person. I can vouch for Will’s ability to be a positive influence on the people around him and for his ability as a goalkeeper. I started training Will in the summer of 2021. He attended an RSL summer camp, and after that we began private individual and group training. From the beginning I believed Will could become a good goalkeeper due to his size, athleticism, and willingness to put in the work to learn and develop. As he attended training, his work ethic and humble approach to receiving instruction helped set the tone for group sessions. In all my training interactions with him, he has never once shown resistance to receiving coaching; in fact, he seems to thrive on feedback and makes obvious efforts to implement what he’s learning. He’ll frequently stay after sessions to ask a follow-up question, and consistently expresses gratitude to me and the other coaches for training him. This combination of determined effort and coachability make him a good example for the people around him, and set a tone of dedication to growth and progress. As a goalkeeper, I’ve enjoyed witnessing Will’s steady improvement. As I mentioned above, he always had the physical attributes that lend themselves to goalkeeping, but he still wanted to improve his technical ability, and his focus on perfecting the fundamentals has allowed him to grow. As a goalkeeper, the things that set Will apart are his diving range and athleticism. He also shows courage in situations where he needs to come out to win a high ball, or leave his line to cut the angle in a breakaway/1v1 situation. Every goalkeeper has things they need to work on, but not every goalkeeper invests the time and energy required to actually improve. I’m pleased to say that Will makes that investment, and over the years he has dedicated countless hours with me and with other coaches to improve and grow. I feel confident that Will would contribute to any team who is in need of an athlete who is dedicated, technically solid, and athletically gifted. I highly recommend Will Staats as this type of individual. With regards, Brian Simmons TIP Goalkeeping

  • Letter of Recommend Cody Birt Head Coach - Summit FC 09 [email protected] 801-645-6128 To whom it may concern, I am writing to wholeheartedly recommend Will as an exceptional soccer player and individual. Over the past six years, I have had the privilege of coaching Will, and during this time, I have witnessed his remarkable growth both on and off the field. Will embodies the qualities of a true leader, demonstrating unwavering dedication, coachability, and reliability throughout his time with our team. He consistently exhibits a strong work ethic, often among the first to arrive and the last to leave training sessions and games. His commitment to self-improvement and team success is truly commendable. One of the most impressive aspects of Will's character is his resilience in the face of adversity. Despite sustaining a knee injury, Will's passion for the game remained undiminished. Throughout his recovery process, he displayed an amazing determination to return to the pitch, working tirelessly to regain his strength and mobility During his recovery, Will's selflessness and compassion were also evident in his interactions with his teammates. Despite being sidelined from active play, he willingly took on the role of mentoring and supporting our backup goalkeeper. Will's willingness to share his knowledge and experience not only contributed to the development of his teammate but also fostered a sense of unity and camaraderie within the team. In recognition of his outstanding leadership qualities, Will was voted team captain by his team. Since assuming this role, he has embraced the responsibilities with enthusiasm. Will's ability to motivate and inspire his teammates, coupled with his exceptional leadership skills, has had a profound impact on the team dynamic, contributing to our success. In summary, Will is an outstanding individual whose dedication, leadership, and resilience make him an invaluable asset to any soccer team. His positive attitude, work ethic, and commitment to excellence set him apart both on and off the field. I have no doubt that Will will continue to excel in all his future endeavors and am confident that he will make a lasting impact wherever his journey takes him. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information. Thank you for considering Will for any opportunities that may arise. Sincerely, Cody Birt
