Personal Statement
My name is Todd Hoagland, I am 18, 5'11, 175 pounds and I am attending and playing soccer at Skagit Valley Community College. I graduated high school in June 2012. I am interested in playing division 1 or 2 but I am also considering division 3 if the school is right for me. I am interested in attending a 4 years university either after 1 year at CC or 2 years.
I was initially enrolled to a D2 school and had a roster spot on the team but due to circumstances back home I felt that I needed to be at home.
Even though community college is not at the same level as division 2 I am working extremely hard to get better each and every day. I train in the morning on technical work for several hours then I attend my college training. Over the summer of 2012 I played for Bellingham United, which is a semi-pro team, as well as San Carlos All-stars who also play semi-pro.
I have worked my way up from the Hispanic Men’s league in Mount Vernon, Washington to PDL Division 1 soccer in Bellingham, Washington for the Whatcom Rangers. For Rangers I usually start at left center defense or at right defense. I am known for my work rate on the field. I also work very hard off the field; I am always looking for ways to improve my game. At every practice I give full effort, and in every scrimmage I try as hard as I can. I am always 15-20 minutes early to practice and games doing something to get myself prepared to play.
I have also played for my high school team for 2 years now. La Conner High School is in a small 2B league that plays in the fall so it doesn’t interfere with my club schedule. Playing for my high school team has given me State tournament experience and leadership experience. For La Conner I typically play in the midfield where my stamina and technical skills are put to good use. My sophomore year I started every game and we won 3rd in state. That year I was named to the all-state second team and all-league team. My junior year I was voted captain and I tallied up 20 assists over the season and 6 goals. We won 3rd in state again and I was named to the all-state first team and all-league team. My senior year I scored 30 goals and had 15 assists. I scored 8 goals in one game, which is the 2012 national record. I was named league MVP, 1st team all state, and all area.
