Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Devon Castro.

It has been my dream to play collegiate soccer. Soccer has been my life since I could remember, I love everything about it. The passion, the skill, and most of all the compradore. I want to play college soccer in the most competitive atmosphere I can. I want to train hard everyday and be surrounded by players that feel the same way and have the same worth ethic. Whether I am playing D1, D2, D3, NAIA, or JC, I want to be challenged to play my absolute best every single day.

I am qualified to play at the collegiate level from years of practice. I started playing soccer at the age of 5, and began playing soccer competitively at the age of 10. From 2013-2015 I played for FPSC 98 Black in the Washington State Premier League, one of the most competive leagues in WA State. I was the captain of the team for the 2014-2015 season and was invited during the 2015 year to play with PSPL Academy team in Modesto, Cali in the NPL Fall Showcase. This tournament was comprised of some of the greatest teams in the nation and had over 100+ college coaches in attendance. This Febraury I decided to join a new club team to challenge myself even more on the field. I now play for Washington Premier 98 Black. We are currently the 2nd best team in the State, 13th on the west coast, and 30th in the nation. Last season we were invited to the Youth National Championships in Indiana where we made it out of the group stage. We play in the Regional Soccer League the most competitive league in WA State. We also were invited to play in the Far West Regional League, a league comprised of the 2 best teams from WA, OR, UT, ID, AL, and BC, Canada. We will be playing in 4 show showcase tournaments this season. Nike Crossfire Challenge (WA) July 8-11 @ 60 acres, Surf College Cup (CA) November 25-27 @ San Diego Polo Fields, PAC NW Winter Showcase (WA) January 1-3 @ Starfire Sports Complex, and Del Sol Presidents Day Tournament (AZ) Febraury 12-15 @ Reach 11 Sports Camp.

I am a 5'10, 140 lbs Attacking/Defensive Mid. I love to create chances in the attack. I find spaces in between the defense and midfielder and receive the ball at me feet and look to advance the attack. I am right footed but have a very strong left foot due to years of practice. I get my head up quickly on the ball and find the next pass fast and I have the ability to get it to that player no matter where he is at in the field.

What seperatea me from other recruits? I believe it is the fact that I love soccer. I love to watch, I love to play, I love to train. There will never be a practice where I am slacking off or not giving my 100%. And not all players are like this. I want to be very successful, and my desire to do that is what gives me an edge on every opponent I face. I never take the sport for granite, therefore, I would never do anything to jeopardize my chances of playing. So, you will not need to worry about my grades, and my ethic outside of the field.

Academically, I have a 2.5 GPA, due to a rough start in high school. But this is by no means my best, and I understand this. So, my current grades are flourishing, due to the realization of playing collegiate soccer and bettering my future. I will carry this hard work in the classroom to my college classes. My current SAT scores are Mayh 500, Reading 480, and Writing 490. I am looking to retake the SAT again in the coming months. I have not yet taken the ACT, but I do plan on doing so. In college, I am looking to major in biochemistry with a 3.5+, because I would like to go to medical school after college.

I hope this info gave you a better idea of the kind of person, student, and athlete I am. If you have any questions or would like to talk to me, please email me at [email protected] or [email protected], or give me a call at 253-283-0015.

Thank you,

Devon Castro.
