Dear Coach,
My name is Drew Lewallen and I believe I am the best candidate for your team. Not only am I a strong soccer player, but I am a high achiever with a strong GPA. I attend Amherst High School in WI and I play a variety of positions depending on the team, but mostly defense. I started playing soccer when I was four years old and have never stopped. My club team is called PCYS (Portage County Youth Soccer). I started with them when I was four and continue to play for them, currently. Throughout my years of soccer, I have played at many different levels. In this organization, I have worked my way up to a select-level team, which I will now have been on for three years.
When I was a freshman I started on the varsity soccer team at Amherst High School. During this time they needed me to play in the stopper position. By the end of the year, I won an honorable mention from WIAA. In my second year of high school, I started on varsity. During this time my coach began to realize how versatile I was. I played many different positions this year and seemed to be placed where the strongest need was on the field. This past season we only got to play nine games, due to COVID, but we ended up winning the conference title and made the playoffs. At the end of the year I won MVP for my team and got another honorable mention from my conference.
When I was 14 years old I heard about the ODP (Olympic Development Program) team for WI and decided to try it out. I ended up making the team, but because of COVID, our tournament play in IN was canceled. I tried out for the team again this past season and didn't make the cut but I am an alternate player. So far, this has been my biggest achievement in soccer.
In the title student-athlete, the student comes first, and that is important to me. I am very organized and know that school is crucial if you want to be successful in life. I have always strived to be the best person I can be and will always make the most out of every situation. I am a very hard worker and will put in 100% effort whether the task is big or small. I have learned to balance my academic career with my athletic schedule and this has helped me to be a well-rounded and truly organized individual. I know how to prioritize and I put my efforts into being good at what I become involved in. I currently have a GPA of 3.87 and I am enrolled in advanced classes. I really have a strong interest in business and hope to pursue this path in college. I hope that you have taken what I have said into consideration to help me achieve my goal of playing soccer at a D1 school. I hope that you choose me as a candidate for your program.
Sincerely,
Drew Lewallen
