Personal Statement
My name is Cameron Auchinachie and I am a junior attending Suffield Academy, a prep school in northern Connecticut. Swimming has consumed a great deal of my time since my arrival last year as a sophomore. I began my swimming career as a seventh grader at public school and have improved substantially ever since. The quality of my swimming is a direct result of my coach’s expertise and my hard work. It is my hope that I will continue to progress and drop time across all events. Ultimately, my plan is to swim at the collegiate level.
My coaches have told me that I have a lot of potential as a swimmer. I started swimming with raw talent; but without much technique. Two years of hard work in and out of the pool has earned me elite swimmer status. My improved performance is a direct result of time spent out of the pool doing cross fit, weight lifting, and running. Over the past two summers, I have competed in club meets and practiced intensely with the goal of increasing my confidence in competitive race situations.
At Suffield I have had high intensions scholastically and athletically. I have developed leadership roles on campus, including proctoring a dorm on campus and a captain of the varsity swim team. I was also introduced to water polo as a sophomore at Suffield which has had a positive impact on my sprinting and overall fitness. Now in my junior year I am looking to carry my training into the spring and summer until next season.
