Personal Statement
I can always remember having a competitive spirit. I've been swimming competitively for 4 1/5 years and I have also been participating in triathlons with my mother and friends from my swim team. When my parents are not enthusiastically cheering me on, they are looking for more opportunities for me to improve in whatever endeavor I set my mind to.
I pursue learning, whether it's through school or lessons at home or with friends with fervor because I feel that I am receiving a well-rounded perspective that is preparing me for my future. My years spent in the Boy Scouts of America (B.S.A) has helped me understand the importance of selflessly assisting others. I enjoy helping through volunteering with Cancer charities and food drives.
School is very important to me. Whenever I have a difficult time understanding in class I make a note in my planner and I dedicate time to study at home. My favorite subjects are math and the sciences. I enjoy math because it is straight forward and objective, I approach every question as if it were a puzzle that needs putting together. Science is another one of my favorites, because I learn so much about the human body and how life works on earth.
When I was much younger, I played some football, soccer and even competed in BMX racing with my father. As time went on my parents saw how I enjoyed the physical activity of water sports, even more than some of the other sports I had been participating in. This led me to joining a swim club when I was 12. I immediately felt that this was the sport I would excel in; all the while I was participating in Scouts, where I learned to appreciate the outdoors, as well as learn important life and leadership skills that I still use today. I can cook, sew and even survive in the woods if necessary.
Academically, my parents have always encouraged me to commit to doing the best that I can. They helped me understand how my swimming and good grades will provide me great opportunities for college and my future. My active life style, my parents, coaches and friends has given me an appreciation for the hard work it takes to be a skilled competitive swimmer and the personal gains I make in and out of the water. All of which I truly believe I possess. This affirmation and hard work will help me succeed through high school, college and beyond.
