Personal Statement
Swimming didn’t come naturally to me at first. At a young age I was accidentally pushed into a closed pool, from that point I had a fear of water. I began taking swim lessons at the local YMCA, I was terrified but reluctantly participated. For my 6th birthday I received what are now known as “magic goggles”. I had learned how to hold my breath and I could comfortably open my eyes. I was hooked!
I began swimming summer league when I was 7 and have been swimming competitively ever since. I have been with my current year round team, Summit Swimming, since the age of 10 and have been on the varsity swim team for 3 years now at Archer High School in Lawrenceville, GA where I have received High Point Awards each year. For the 2015/2016 season I was also recognized by Gwinnett County Swim League as swimmer of the month for the month of January.
I love competition and strive to always do my best and learn something from every race. I am a very hard worker at meets as well as at practices. I listen to my coaches and implement corrections and critiques. I also encourage my fellow team mates to do their best and do my best to lead by example.
I have made great strides in school to improve my studies and raise my GPA.
I would like to attend a college that will encourage me academically and challenge me in the pool. I am open to all options and ultimately want to find the best college match at the highest level of completion. I love the competition of swimming and the technical aspect of improving myself. I believe these qualities can be used in all aspects of life even beyond swimming.
