As a junior in high school, I am still working on goals and aspirations for college. Several things interest me such as physical therapy, history, teaching, and coaching, Being a hands-on kind of person I am sure I will end up in a profession where I am active and involved. Internships and experience in whatever I pursue will be important to me, as well as good academic support.
As an athlete, I like to train very hard in practice and enjoy competition. Relay races are by far my favorite events because nothing gets the adrenaline flowing better than swimming fast together with my teammates. I do not lift weights yet because I started growing late and am still growing. Spending time with my fellow athletes outside of swimming is vital to my lifestyle, so I need to be in place where I am well connected and feel that I belong. Working to make my athletic experience truly a team effort is a main focus for me. I enjoy being around people who encourage each other to be the best that they can be. Pulling for each other is what makes it all worthwhile.
As for my character, I believe I get my best inspiration from my Christian values. It gives me optimism for the future and determination for the present. I have enjoyed volunteering to lifeguard for the handicapped at school as well as helping out at Special Olympics. I enjoy helping my friends and neighbors and also getting to know new people. Of course, swimming has taught me discipline, team work, how to follow, how to lead, and how to persevere when things are tough. I was fortunate to grow up in a stable family with three sisters and three brothers, so I guess that's where the teamwork and community began in my life.
Academically, I strive to get the very best grades, but getting straight A's is not the most important thing to me. Being well-rounded and involved is also important. I struggle some with dyslexia, but it has not held me back in high school except perhaps with learning a second language.
I am sure there is a college out there where I belong and will thrive, and I look forward to finding he right fit for me.
