Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Austin Morris. I am student-athlete at Moline Sr High School, Class of 2019. From the time I was little (7 years old specifically), swimming has been my one and only passion.
Ultimately, my goal is to swim at the collegiate level and obtain a 4 year degree. Beyond that, to be an integral part of a NCAA championship is something I will strive for. I am fully aware of the timeless training and hard work needed to attain my aspirations; to which I am committed to carrying out. As of now, I train everyday, multiple times, with each consisting of multiple hours. I am committed to DOING it, not just saying it.
So what? Doesn't every swimmer do these things? Yes, swimming is a very hard working sport that requires a lot of time and effort, and almost every good swimmer does these things. However, what makes myself differ from the rest is HOW I carry out this process. I am a very hard working individual that is willing to give his all to obtain his goals. The type that shows up wanting to better himself with nothing less than the utmost positive attitude. Sportsmanship is everything to me. This not only pertains to an individual standpoint, but a team aspect as well. My team is very important to me, and I will give everything in my power to help and / or better my team. I have received several commendations for my leadership qualities from my club coaches and as well as my high school coach. I have an excellent rapport with many coaches from all over Illinois and Iowa. I feel I always represent myself and my team with true sportsmanship and integrity.
On top of this, my academics are also a top priority. During my freshman year, I participated in two AP / Honors classes. Sadly, these are the only advanced classes offered my freshman year. So, altogether, with a total of seven classes, two being AP, I have a accumulative GPA of 3.67. However, with the weighted classes, my weighted GPA is 4.0. My sophomore year was much like my 1st year in taking 2 AP/Honors classes and 5 other classes for a total class load of 7 classes a day.
Out of the five hundred and seventy-four students in my grade, I am in the top 12%.
I aspire to take a full schedule of AP and Honors classes next year, and for the years to come. My interests are in the Mathematics and Science departments. I have been looking at BioMedical Engineering, which integrates both of my academic strengths.
Not only are grades important, so is being a valuable citizen in my community. I want to represent my team and my University in the best of light, to be a positive reflection of the program both athletically as well as academically. Represent with full pride.
I am more than happy to have contact with any coaches that see me and show interest. I hope that I have given you a good insight on my personality, athletic and academic wants and needs, and my goals as well. I hope that I am the student athlete that sparks your interest!
