Personal Statement
In college, I want to gain knowledge and an understanding of my major of choice to work well in the workforce. I also want to have gained a good deal of experience with my athletic team to be able to work well as a team player. I am a good candidate for a collegiate swim team because I can work and lead others well. For example, in junior high, I successfully led a schoolwide donation drive that collected gifts to stuff 65 packages for children of third world countries. During the lockdown following the spread of COVID-19, I volunteered nearly 50 hours at my local food bank to help the hungry in my community. I have also won an award for character in the classroom and won an academic award in geometry as well. In the pool, I won the Illinois age group 400 LCM free when I was 10. This was soon followed by a pair of setbacks that both required surgery. I had a rigorous recovery but it has helped me to become a tougher and faster swimmer. My coach, Charlie Yourd, has helped shaped me into becoming a strong distance swimmer, a supportive teammate, and a responsible person.
