I am at my best when I am being pushed to my limits by my coaches, teachers, and myself. I like to work hard and overcome challenges whether it is swimming, schoolwork.
Dedication to making myself and team better can best be exemplified through my practice schedule. Currently, I am at a pace to attend nearly 93% of the 8-session per week schedule, logging nearly 6500 yards per practice and 17 hours per week in the pool and in drylands. This participation rate leads the team.
In speaking with coaches and teachers, the attributes most often highlighted about me are attitude and perseverance. I always look on the positive side of situations and figure out how I need to overcome or adapt in order to succeed. A great example of this is my entire swimming career...when I was 7 years old and attempted to make the Dynamo Swim Club for the first time, I did not get a spot on the team. So, I worked hard for the next six months, made the team, and have worked my way through every single level in the organization where now I find myself about to get moved into the top tier of the 3rd-ranked swim club in the U.S.
From a school standpoint, in 3rd grade, it was discovered I had dyslexia and I needed to completely relearn how to learn in 2 years before entering middle school. I worked with a group of educators outside of the public education system and systematically relearned how to read, organize thoughts, and do homework. Since entering middle school, I have made the honor role in 11 consecutive semesters through the midpoint of my junior year. A positive attitude and perseverance have been a constant through my life.
I want to continue swimming in college because I like being part of a team and helping lead others to success. I thrive in situations that require hard work and long hours, and I want to cap off my swimming career being successful at the next higher level.
