Zachary Preen '26 Recruiting Profile

I started swim lessons at age five.  That is when I realized I loved to be in the water.  Then, I found out I loved to race when I was asked to join the swim team.  I always enjoyed trying to catch the older and faster swimmers.  At age eleven, I took a break from swimming when a team coaching change occurred and I felt I lost the fun of the sport.  During my year off I tried several other sports, basketball, running, biking, etc., but none of them stuck like swimming did. I came back to the sport because of how much I realized I had missed the pool and my swim family.  Also, a new coach arrived, Pedro Pereira.  I’ve been swimming full time year-round ever since.  I am happy and more myself when I am swimming. I realized my place was the pool. 

I am highly competitive and have a strong work ethic.  My moto has always been “Don’t stop, until your body is completely spent”.  That is how I push myself to my limits.  I strive to be one of the hardest working swimmers on our team.  I am a highly motivated team member.  I cheer on and support my team mates.  I am very coachable and cannot wait to learn what will make me a better swimmer, teammate, and person.  I put my whole heart and soul into being the best I can be and try to live our team motto #betterthanyesterday.

I have been successful so far with respect to time management of year-round swimming including morning and afternoon practices, which I have been doing 2-3days a week since I was 13.  I have been able to maintain a high GPA (4.0) despite the rigors of AP and Honors classes.

I am passionate about swimming.  My ultimate goal is to find a college that challenges me academically and in the pool.  I thrive on competition and am hoping to learn from my college coaches and team mates how to be successful at this next level of competition.  I am willing to make the sacrifices required to meet these goals and look forward to pushing my limits to levels I never imagined!
