Personal Statement
My name is Kyle Hladky and I am eighteen years old from Covington, LA. I am currently 6’0 tall and weigh 150 lbs. I am just begginning my senior year at St. Paul’s School. My swimming accomplishments include, but are not limited to: being All-State in the 200 meter fly with my club team, being a member of multiple school record setting relays, qualifying for the Louisiana High School Championships my first three years (making finals in both individual events as a Sophomore and Junior in the State’s top division), and being voted the most outstanding 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grade swimmer for my high school.
Compared to many I compete against, I began swimming at a very late age. I have only been swimming competitively since the age of thirteen. Opportunities for the sport are limited in the small community where I live. My club team practices year round in an outdoor, five lane, 25 yard pool. Practice opportunities are limited to 5-6 times a week. There is also no formal dry land or weight training program. I make up for the limited resources with private lessons from my club coach and strength training at a local gym. The hard work continues to pay dividends as evidenced by the significant years over year time drops.
Academically, I am a member of the National Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Eco Car, and many other school clubs. I am also a very active writer and I have received many awards for this personal hobby. My personal interests include history and literature. Me highest composite score on the ACT is currently a 31 (a 33 when using the super scoring method for the times I have taken exam)
I feel that I would be a strong asset to any college I attend because of the many qualities I possess. I am team player, first and foremost. I will support my teammates as we all try to improve and polish our shared performance through hard work and determination. I also have strong leadership qualities that would be appreciated in the college swimming environment. I am interested in any school that will challenge me both academically and athletically, regardless of location or region of the country.
