As an Eagle Scout, I understand the commitment and dedication that it takes to be successful in all aspects of life, especially in the sport of swimming. I firmly believe that in order to achieve great things, determination is necessary, but also sacrifices have to be made. My high school swim team practices at a local pool which only has three lanes and accommodating all swimmers in these lanes hinders my ability to swim the sets I require for training. Therefore after my high school swim practice, I attend a second practice, my club swim practice, each night. This involves a great deal of time and therefore I have to manage my time well so I can also focus on my academics. It does not leave much room for leisure activities; however, this is a sacrifice I am willing to make. I am tireless in my efforts to become a better swimmer. After each swim meet, I study my videos for hours. I critique my performance and make adjustments accordingly. I believe my devotion to this sport has shaped me into the leader I am today. As a Junior, I am one of the captains of the Hampden Academy Swim Team. I work with many of my teammates to help improve their stroke and techniques and in turn, my leadership abilities grow and develop each day.
One of the most meaningful highlights of my swim career to date is when my small club team from Maine consisting of seven boys won 2017 YMCA New Englands Boys Senior Age Group. It is amazing how such a small and talented group of young men through hard work and perseverance could pull off such a task. I am honored to be a part of this group and have learned the value of teamwork through this experience. I also swam the butterfly length of the 200 medley relay and we broke the YMCA New England's meet record.
I aspire to compete at the college level in a swim program that I will continue to learn and grow. If given the opportunity, I feel that I have the character, talent, and work ethic to make a difference on your team.
