Sean Twomey '17 Recruiting Profile

My name is Sean Twomey and I am an aspiring high school student with a goal of swimming in college. I have been swimming since the age of six and ever since then have been extremely dedicated to the sport, I truly could not see myself engaging in any other activity the way I do with swimming. I would be a great candidate for a collegiate swim team because I am determined to always work towards improving not only myself, but my teammates as well. After completing my third year of high school swimming and my tenth year of club swimming, I have learned to not back down from a challenge and always motivate my teammates to be the best they can be.  Taking a very advanced and rigorous course-load in high school, and balancing it with my demanding commitments to swimming has taught me excellent time management skills. Skills which I will continue to exercise and improve even more on, in college.

Following the conclusion of my junior year season, I was named the Capital Gazette Male Swimmer of the Year. It was truly an honor to receive this award, and I owe it all to my club and high school coaches; Marc Carella, Mark Mangold, and Tim Poole. While being granted this award was wonderful, it was the accomplishments my team and I made together that mattered the most to me. Both the South River men and women were county and regional champions in the 2015-2016 season, which was the ultimate prize. I believe the team should always come before the individual, even in a very individualized sport such as swimming. Winning races and dropping time is great and all, but triumphing as a team will always be the most important element of the sport to me. I aim to become a member of a successful and high-achieving college swim team so I can continue doing what I love, as well as contribute to the team in every way possible.
