Personal Statement
Upon reflecting on who I am, I have realized that my desire to advocate and support others has led me to develop my skills as a leader. The sport of swimming continues to help me grow both as a student and an athlete as it requires an extreme amount of focus and dedication. I am honored to be a part of the Aquajets Swim Team. While we are a big team with a lot of great swimmers, I feel that the most important reason that we are able to do so well is rooted in our team moto,”Power of the Team.” These four words are what has led our team to win many State Championships, set national records, and send many teammates to the Olympic Trials and two teammates to the Olympics. Our team focuses on both excelling in the sport, but also has a great emphasis on becoming a better person for others.
I am proud of winning 5 events in the Minnesota Age Group State Championship. Putting in the hard work and sacrifice to win both the 1500 and 400 Freestyle has allowed me to learn a great deal about myself and what I can accomplish. My relay wins have shown me that the success of a team is not based on four individuals but how they work together and support each other to achieve a common goal.
My goal is to attend a University that is both math and science based, and one that will assist me in developing leadership skills that will allow me to help others. Being a part of a swim team during my college experience would allow me to combine the skills that I have developed in the sport of swimming with the challenges of academics. It is through both my accomplishments and perseverance through challenges that have made me the person that I am today. I believe that I would be a great fit for your team and school.
