My name is Vincent Hagar, I am number 5 of 6 kids. Being from a big family I have learned the value of patience and how to put someone else’s needs above my own needs. Being part of a swim team, I realize that putting my team’s needs above individual needs is what makes a team great. The individual bonds between swimmers is an essential part of having a winning team. This cohesiveness is something that I value and look for in a team.
Growing up with four older siblings, I was able see that perseverance and focus can lead to success both in the pool and in the classroom. Another thing I have learned in life, is that to attain something you really want, you must set goals. Swimming is a sport where it is important to set goals. My coaches have stressed creating achievable short term and long term goals throughout my swim career. This has helped me to see where I want to go and how I want to get there. I know I want to swim in college and to get there I have set some high school goals. For the next 3 years my goals are to graduate with a 4.0 GPA and to place top 3 at State; as well as, my high school team placing top 5 at the State Meet. I also want to continue growing as a leader and become a team captain my Junior and Senior years.
