Personal Statement

My name is Brian McKenna. I am currently 6'1, weighing 158 lbs. I started competitive swimming when I was 13 and plan on continuing throughout college. I had my best swims this Junior year at the Boys Public School Athletic League Opens meet where I qualified for Junior Nats and All Americans with a time of 20.85 in the 50 Free SCY. I also made the junior Nats bonus cut for the 100 back with a time of 51.10 SCY. As a team Captain of my club team Abbe, I am a role model to the younger kids on my team. For that reason, I am leaning towards going to a college near my my hometown, Queens, New York. This way I could still practice with them once college season is over. However, Colleges on the west coast also interest me a lot too since I have relatives there and I love the beaches there. Also, since my family is on a tight budget, I don't want to burden them with the college tuition, therefore, looking for ways to earn a scholarship. Any financial aid would be a relief nowadays. The majors that I am most interested in now is engineering in the field of electrical or mechanical. My second option would be to major in accounting.
