I started competitively swimming at the age of 15 my freshman year of high school. I knew immediately that I was at a major disadvantage compared to my peers and teammates. I was joining a sport in 9th grade that everyone around me have been training at a competitive level since they were in grade school. I started behind the rest of my team but I was never discouraged and to the contrary, I turned that into a constant source of inspiration that drove me to train even harder. It was from this experience that I developed a work ethic that has pushed me farther and faster than I ever imagined I could go.
My freshman year I swam a less than stellar 27 second 50 free and 1 minute 100 free. By CHSAA championship in my sophomore year I dropped to a 22.9 in the 50 free 21.8 of a relay start and a 50.6 in the 100 free. That year I won gold in the 200 medley relay in the CHSAA championships which is the strongest division in New York State. With a time of 1:34.70 I was in All-American Consideration. For that season I won the coveted Block-X award which is the highest honor you can get for a specific achievement . I won the sophomore athlete of the year and the swimming most improved award.
I enjoy getting to know people and working as part of a team to push each other to our goals together. I feel I perform best with a team especially under pressure. That's why I perform best at the anchor position in relays. When it came down to the wire I stay cool under pressure and pull out the win for my team.
I feel if a team would give me a chance to be part of their roster, I would outperform their expectations of me. I drive to be the best, and I will do anything to accomplish my goals. With a college coaching system and good training I would grow exponentially as a person and swimmer.
I believe that with dedication and consistency I can achieve anything I set out to do. More often then not I practice with passion and race with purpose. When a practice gets tough I force myself to dig deep within to find the strength to achieve what I desire. Every day, meet, and practice is an opportunity to work harder and to better myself in all aspects of my swimming. I enter every practice with a desire to do better than the day before.
