Personal Statement
I have been swimming competitively since I was 8 years old. I started out on a local summer league swim team. The coaches personally told me I had a lot of natural talent and I was awarded rookie of the year. That gave me motivation to keep swimming. I was often asked “why do you try so hard, it’s just practice,” but that’s just the way I am. When I’m in the pool, I want work harder than anyone else.
School hasn’t always come easy for me, although I work hard and keep a very respectable GPA. I was diagnosed with Central Auditory Processing Disorder (“CAPD”) when I was in 7th grade, but that has only helped me understand the way that I learn best and taught me that I can accomplish the same goals as others as long as I put in the extra effort. I never shy away from a challenge and I have chosen to take Honors courses throughout my freshman and sophomore years.
I have always wanted to go to a great college and swim competitively. I know that my education is my top priority because that will prepare me for my future career; however, swimming competitively will also be an invaluable experience that will shape my life. My ideal coach is one that is motivational and one that will push me to my limits and beyond. I am open to all options but will take the time to find the best fit in a college for my educational goals where I can also be a part of a great swimming program with the highest level of competition possible.
