As I pursue completion of my high school diploma,I face great challenges in deciding what career path to pursue and what college offers me the best preparation for my future. With that in mind, it might be helpful for anyone viewing my profile to know a little more about me.
I began swimming at the age of five, following in my older sister's footsteps. When I entered middle school, I was interested in trying other sports that conflicted with swimming. Although I enjoyed the time to learn about and participate in other sports, I found myself drawn back to swimming my freshman year by a very persistent high school coach and my love of the sport. After almost three years out of the water, I had many training and endurance obstacles ahead of me. I also struggled through a minor injury keeping me out of the water for almost one month of the season. Despite those hurdles, I was able to qualify for Districts my freshman year. In preparation for my sophomore year, I knew I wanted to achieve much more. I set my goals and standards high by training with more competitive YMCA program in addition to my high school team. My season was a dream season for a swimming, recording at least one personal best in every meet. Over the course of a two year period, I dropped my 200 freestyle from a 2:14.96 to my season best this year of a 1:55.32. I also began swimming the 100 breaststroke this season for the first time. My time transformed from a 1:13.77 in November to a 1:06.57 by the end of the season. I also qualified for my individual events and two freestyle relays at Districts. Although I am proud of my accomplishments and the progress I have made, I have more goals to achieve in the next two years.
As a young man, I believe I have my priorities in order to achieve both in and out of the classroom. I believe in family first. I have benefited from the support of my family and the role models who have shaped me into the person I am today. My education is my second priority. As the son of a teacher, I understand that knowledge is truly powerful and will open doors of opportunity. Finally, my dedication to my swimming career is third. I enjoy the rewards of hard work and perseverance. My teachers, coaches, and those who know me best will tell you that I am a young man of character. I believe in doing what is right and have learned that only through hard work and dedication can you hope to achieve all that you are capable of achieving.
