Cruz Buitron '19 Recruiting Profile

My life changed when I was 7 years old when I suffered a severe concussion from a bicycle accident that almost took my life. When the doctors told me that I would never play another contact sport the rest of my life, my father threw me into the pool.  I quickly found that I had a passion for swimming and it filled my need to compete.

I will never forget when I was 12 and swimming in the Junior Olympics 200 breaststroke finals, after my biggest drop ever in the prelims, I was seated 2^nd against Lance, the best breaststroker in the area. My coach told me that he always goes out to fast so relax and let him take the lead. Then the last 2 laps smoke him. I finished first that night, and when I looked up at the score board I had dropped 6 seconds off my prelim time and swam the 2^nd fastest time in country for a 12-year old in that event. My coach told me that night that night that it was a game changing swim. I am proud to say that I have continued to improve each year and just recently had a great US Swimming Futures Meet in Cleveland over this past summer. I also was just names to the USA swimming Academic All American team for 2017.

My goal is to get the best education as possible and do the thing I love the most, swim.
