My name is Shane Pilkinton I am 6'2" and weigh 175 lbs. I have been an athlete since I was four, starting in instructional t-ball. I played football from the age of eight to twelve, quarterback and linebacker position. I played baseball from the age of four to thirteen, pitcher, catcher, 1st base, 3rd base and all outfield positions. I started summer league swimming at the age of seven. I participated in all three sports for about four years. When I started my freshman year I then realized I could no longer participate in more than one sport. Having to choose, I chose swimming.
My freshman year I swam JV because I was a transfer student. Our men's JV team won first place at districts that year along with five first place finishes for me.
My sophomore year I swam Varsity. At TISCA I swam the 50 free in 22.01 with a 3rd place finish in finals, our men's 200 freestyle relay finished in 2nd place with a time of 1:27.81. At Districts I swam 50 free, 2nd place; 100 breast, 9th place, 200 freestyle relay, 1st place and 200 medley relay, 3rd place. At Regionals I swam 50 free in 21.47 with a 4th place finish and 200 medley relay 1:38.90, 5th place, 200 freestyle relay 1:25.42, 2nd place. I received an All State Honorable Mention certificate for my 50 free finish at Regions. At the 17 5A State Championship meet at UT in Austin, TX we swam the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.18 with a third place finish in finals. My relay and I received an All State First Team certificate. I have a UIL State Meet Certificate of Achievement to certify my participation at the state meet.
My state experience motivated me train harder and improve my times in order to go to State my junior year in an individual event.
My junior year at Districts I swam 50 free in 21.61 with a 1st place finish, 100 freestyle in 48.46 with a 3rd place finish, men's 200 freestyle relay in 1:29.83 with a 2nd place finish and men's 400 free relay in 3:17.02 with a 1st place finish. At Regionals I swam the 50 free in 21.03 with a first place finish, breaking the previous HS record of 21.20, I also swam the 100 freestyle in 47.67 with a 6th place finish, 200 freestyle relay in 1:28.48 with a 4th place finish and 400 freestyle relay in 3:16.78 with a 5th place finish. At the 17 5A State Championship meet at UT in Austin, TX I swam the 50 free with a time of 21.25 receiving a 6th place finish. At our swim team banquet my coach, Brian Hutchinson, named me captain of the men's team due to my leadership and work ethic I showed during the year.
I was disappointed in my 6th place finish at State after gaining time in the finals. I have been training as hard as I can in the gym and in the pool to improve and become a better swimmer every day since the day I got back from state. My goal is to improve my times while increasing my chances of becoming a swimmer at the collegiate level.
