Swimming has played an important role in my life and my development as a young adult. I have been in the water since before I could walk and have been swimming competitively since I was four years old. Swimming has taught me how to handle defeat as well as how to be humble when on top. Unlike team sports, swimming is a race against the clock with one winner. This causes swimmers to develop a unique bond with, and level of respect for, our opponents. The athletes we compete against are many times friends and are competing against that same clock in order to achieve that same goal, the best time ever. This bond allows us to be happy for our fellow competitor when they perform well by bettering our best time, and understand how they feel when they swim a bad race. Swimming has taught me that things are not given freely in life, academia or athletics but rather they are earned through hard work, time, patience and respect for others. The effort level, dedication and core values required to practice 6+ times a week have spilled over into how I approach my family life and my academics. Swimming has helped me become a better person and student. My future goals include making the 2016 Olympic trials and being accepted to a college or university with strong academic and swimming programs in 2017
My coaches include US Olympian (1996) and Gold and Silver medalist Jeremy P. Linn and three time South Korean Olympian (1996, 2000, and 2004) Kim Bang-Hyun (also Bryan Kim).
