Personal Statement

Swimming in college is a tremendous goal that I want to achieve. To meet that goal, I push myself in every practice to exceed my limits. During practice, I always think about swimming smart, with clean precise technique on my starts, turns, walls, and finishes. When sets get tough, I am determined to power through, giving my all one hundred percent. Joining a college team would be an opportunity of a lifetime.

Academics is very important to me.  In and outside the classroom, I challenge myself to focus and participate as much as possible. Being a good athlete and being a good student shows how versatile I can be. Knowing that swimming will not be a lifelong career, I strive to learn all the knowledge the world has to offer. My learning applies to everything in life, including experiences and discoveries I have every day. My hard work has earned me membership in the National Honors Society.

Leadership is key to my development into becoming a better person. Being a great leader and a teammate is something I strive for every day. As a leader, I lead by example everywhere I go, whether in the pool, the classroom, or the community. I get to practice my leadership skills by being team Captain of the Boy's Varsity swim team, and as a cadet leader for my JROTC unit. I also volunteer in community service programs.

Self discipline and focus is another area that is important to me. Studying Kempo Karate for 10 years and becoming a black belt has taught me self discipline and focus.  This allows me to concentrate and helps me achieve my goals.

One accomplishment that has meant a lot to me is being voted three years in a row as the "Most Inspirational and Hardest Working Swimmer" on my high school swim team.  These awards are voted upon by all the swimmers on the team.    I am honored that they see me as a role model and are inspired by my actions both in and out of the pool.  This is very important to me because I want to set the example for the team to follow.  I am also honored to be selected as their team Captain again for next year's season.
