I have committed to swim at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Thank you for stopping by my profile.
Thank you for stopping by my profile page and taking time to look it over. My name is Colin Duffy and I have been swimming since I was six years old. I live in Waunakee, WI which is a town just outside of Madison, WI. The Madison area was named the 7th best swimming community in the United States by USA Swimming. As a young age group swimmer I often placed top 8 in my events, qualified for Team Wisconsin and competed at Central Zones several times. I also won a state championship in the 50 meter fly. Currently I am swimming with Badger Aquatics Club (BAC).
I am a junior at Waunakee High School. My school district was just named a top 500 district by Newsweek and earned the highest ACT score in Dane County this past year. I am taking two AP courses this year, statistics and US Gov & Politics, as well as pre-calculus and other college prep courses. My senior year schedule also includes two AP courses and other challenging classes. I think that I might want to major in art and graphic design along with marketing, if the school has a sports marketing/management emphasis that would be a plus.
This past two years I have seen significant growth as a swimmer. My sophomore year was a break out year. I earned an individual conference championship in the 100 fly and was second in the 500 free. I qualified as an individual for the Wisconsin Division I State Championships and helped my two relays- 200 Medley and 400 Free make it to state as well. I placed 15th in the 100 fly with a time of 52.90 and 8th in the 500 free with a time of 4:44.84. Both are new school records and my points helped the team finish 16th out of 32 schools represented. My time in the 500 also earned me All State Honorable Mention. I am happy to say that the 400 relay broke the school record that year with two new guys on the relay.
This past summer I had an outstanding LCM season. I swam best times in all of my state events and became the Wisconsin 15/16 State Champion in the 400 free (4:08.69) and 1500 free (16:31.16). I was runner up in the 200 fly and just missed a Winter Junior National Cut with my time of 2:08.43. I also was runner up in the 800 free clocking a time of 8:39.94. My short course season with my high school was also successful. In the conference meet I was the 500 free and runner up in the 200 free. I qualified for the WIAA DI state meet in the 200 free and 500 free and helped two relays, the 200 medley relay and the 4 x 100 free relay make it to state as well. I placed 14th in the 200 free and 10th in the 500 free earning All-State Honorable Mention again. My teammates elected me one of the team captains for next year as well.
I have a very competitive spirit and enjoy racing. My club coach wrote me a note prior to long course State 2014, she said to me “Colin your fight in practice and in races is second to none. I know when I put you in a race I’m going to get everything I asked for out of you. Fight to the end. Good Luck, Coach Erin".
As a junior in high school I am just beginning to explore colleges. I do know I want to swim at a program where I can make a difference and study at a school with an excellent academic reputation.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope to hear from you.
