Personal Statement
Hello I’m Jackson Madonia and I swim and play football. I want to continue swimming at the collegiate level because I love the sport and competing. Swimming has taught me important life lessons such as what it takes to achieve a goal, self-discipline, and time management. I believe I can compete at the collegiate level because once I no longer play football and choose to dedicate 100% of my training to swimming I can be even more successful. I like to bring the same intensity I have on the football field to my swim meets, especially getting my relay teammates pumped up, making everyone believe we can do well no matter what the odds. I like high pressure meets and my coaches have referred to me as a “meet swimmer,” the bigger the crowd and more important the meet, the more I enjoy it.
I qualified for the Wisconsin WIAA High School Division 1 (large school division) state meet in both of my first two years of high school swimming. I broke 3 school records my freshman year and swam on the record-breaking 400 free relay. Since age 12, I’ve won 10 age group state championships in a variety of different events both short course and long course. My high school teammates elected me captain for next year because of my leadership and positive energy. I purposely set goals so high that I never achieve every goal and am motivated to keep pushing myself. I love a challenge, one of my favorite things is to be the underdog who nobody expects to be a contender in a race and surprise everyone by finishing first or near the top. I like to vary my events so I can be competitive in whatever event will help my team win. I push myself in the classroom the same way I work hard in the pool and on the football field.
I would love the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level anywhere in the country for a school with a strong business/accounting program and a competitive swim team.
