Personal Statement
I'm Danny Sullivan, a 16 year old junior at Pensacola Catholic High School. I started playing tennis at age 9. I played my first tournament 3 months after picking up a racquet for the first time and won it. Ever since then, I was hooked. I quickly became friends with another tennis player who was 2 years older than me and we would spend countless hours hitting with each other. I couldn't imagine life without tennis in it. I currently have a state and section rating in Florida in the 60's. In the past year I have played mostly Florida Designated tournaments, Sectional tournaments, State Closed and 2 National tournaments. I am the captain of the high school tennis team and have played in the #2 singles and #1 doubles position for the past 2 years. Our high school team won our sectional and regional tournaments and competed at the state tournament the past 2 years. My greatest weapons are my serve and forehand and my determination.i never give up on a match no matter what the score is. I also believe in good sportsmanship on the court.
At school I am currently enrolled in all honors courses which includes 2 AP courses and 2 science courses. I am currently ranked #1 in my class academically, and have been on the math team the past 2 years competing at the tri- county math competition. I have been a student council representative for 2 years, and also belong to several other extracurricular organizations at school. By the time I graduate I will have taken all AP courses that are offered at my school and will have completed 5 math and 5 science couses and 4 years of Spanish. I am interested in pursuing a pre-medical curriculum in college and hope to one day become a cardiac surgeon.
i believe in hard work and am very organized and excel at time management skills. I have 2 projects I am working on presently. I am developing in conjunction with my doubles partner an informational brochure, website and YouTube video advocating skin cancer prevention to tennis players. The brochures will be distributed at all tennis tournaments we attend with a link to our website, YouTube video, twitter and Instagram accounts. I had 4 pre- malignant lesions removed earlier this year and I want to educate others on the dangers of sun exposure.
Also I am in the early stages of developing a small business in which I will operate an ice cream cart selling specialty ice cream bars at the Blue Wahoos Stadium in Pensacola. It is a AA minor league baseball team with a beautiful waterfront park. I have already received approval from the food and beverage manager of the park. I am currently developing the concept in conjunction with them and I will operate as an independent contractor hiring friends and fellow junior athletes as part time employees so they can earn money with a flexible schedule.
My goal in life is to attend an academically superior college where I can earn an excellent education while playing the sport I have loved for almost half my life.
