Personal Statement
My goal is to attend a top college that has a competitive tennis team and to obtain a position on the team. I just completed my junior year at Regis High School in New York City, a highly competitive academic institution and the only tuition free men's high school in the country. Regis was recently named the number one Catholic high school in the US. I was honored to be one of the 135 students awarded a full academic scholarship out of the 1000 applicants from top students in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut who competed for entry into the Regis class of 2017. I rise at 5:30 am every morning to commute from New Jersey to New York's Upper East Side via bus and subway to my school which is 90 minutes each way. Regis, however, does not have a tennis team. The demanding academics of Regis which include all AP courses and approximately five hours of homework per night, plus the long daily commute, have made it challenging to continue to pursue my passion, which is tennis. Throughout the past three years of high school, despite the difficulties, I have continued to train on and off the court as much as I possibly can, and I am still devoted to achieving my goal of playing college tennis for an academically rigorous university. Because I have had to devote the majority of my time to the intense academics of Regis, I have not been able to commit the time necessary to competing in tournaments. This is why my rank and Tennis Recruiting status do not reflect my true abilities and passion for the sport. However, I believe I have the athleticism and skill to play high level tennis in college. I also have an unwavering work ethic. In addition to academics, I view my college years as a time in which I can truly develop my potential in the sport, and bring my game to new heights. I know that I have not even scratched the surface with respect to my potential to be a great tennis player.
