Personal Statement
One of my most proud moments of my high school career was my junior season when I was able to lead my team as the captain to the first state semifinals in the history of the school. I have been the captain of my team since I was a freshman each year getting one step further. The first two years were tough finishing 5th in the region as a freshman and not even making it to sub-state. Freshman year was an eye opener for me, it helped me realize how much I needed to improve my game as well as my teammates around me. Over the summer I spent hours practicing and playing tournaments and I really started to see improvement by winning 3 tournaments that summer. Therefore, when my sophomore season came around I was ready to prove myself, and show my teammates that I was here to win. That season we had one of the best in school history finishing third in regions and getting to play in sub-state for a chance to make it to state. Unfortunately we lost our sub-state matchup not making it to state for the second year in a row. Although we did not achieve our goal it helped me realize how close we were to being at that level.
Finally, when my junior season came along my team and I were determined to reach our goal. We had our best season is school history finishing third in the district and upsetting the two seed in sub-state and finally reaching our goal of state. We barely lost in a close matchup in the semifinals with the defending champs, and with my senior season coming up I'm ready to make the push to become a state champion. As a student athlete I have been able to grow through my struggles each loss helping me become better in and out of the classroom. I have learned the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice, and leadership. I'm looking for a program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. I know I not only have the talent to compete for a college team, but the character, work ethic, and leadership skills to make an immediate impact on your program.
