In life I try to take things day by day to not overwhelm myself but I would like to get good grades, participate in school activities, and to be part of the college tennis team. I’m not sure what I want to major in but I look forward to thrive and discover my passions. However my main passion is tennis.
The first time I played tennis was when I was eight years old. I was in London and when I hit the ball over the net I felt extreme satisfaction. After that moment I committed myself to mastering the sport. Along the way there were obstacles, like my bodyweight, but they only motivated me even further. Initially my coaches underestimated me due to my physique did not think I could compete. However, what I lack in raw physical strength, I make up for with passion and technique.
A week before my high school tryout for tennis I was diagnosed with tendinitis on my left wrist but that didn’t stop me from grinding. I made the team even though I was forced to slice every shot that was coming to my backhand side due to my injury. I was frustrated at first when my coach benched me but I realized I could contribute and help my teammates through encouragement.
My sophomore year my high school tennis team reached state semi-finals after only finishing third in our conference; that taught me it doesn’t matter how you start but how you finish. That season I won first-all conference and earned regional honorable mention.
I practice hours a day because there’s always room for improvement. Nothing gets in the way of my practice, even when my body aches.
I look forward to playing tennis at the collegiate level.
