My collegiate goal is to contribute to a competitive program as well as receive a quality education. I’m looking forward to joining a group of fully committed guys dedicated to achieving the same goal.
I’ve been raised in a very rural town in the Interior of Alaska. With no roads connecting us to an urban area, the only mode of transportation is by airplane. With only 500 people in Galena, my class size is very small although I have been offered a wide range of classes including Flight School where I am close to getting my private pilots license. Due to its remoteness, Galena has always been centered around a subsistence lifestyle. Each fall we hunt for moose to stock our freezer for the winter and put a net in the river each summer to catch salmon.
In school, I am at the top of my class with a 3.95 GPA while being a year round athlete. Throughout my high school career I have competed in cross country, wrestling, basketball, XC skiing, biathlon, and track. Since I began my commitment to running my freshman year, my spring and summer training has been done nearly alone. With such a small town there aren’t many trails and roads to run on. Our school doesn’t have a track or even a track program but that didn’t stop me from reaching the state meet the last 3 years. My father, a former runner as well as my coach, made a 1/4 mile loop on an area of tarmac and that is where the 2 of us spent our spring afternoons. I won my first state championship in the 1600 and 3200 my sophomore year as well as the 3200 my junior year. I won my first Cross Country state title my junior year as well. Although I’ve never had a full team in cross country or track, I have developed my leadership skills through basketball, where I was elected team captain the last two years. With the type of running I have had in high school I feel like I have a lot of self-determination and a tremendous work ethic. It takes extreme dedication and motivation to run the majority of your miles alone.
I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to view my profile. I am looking forward to hearing from you in the future.
