Personal Statement
My name is Nic Caruso. I'm a senior and a distance runner at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, AZ. My favorite event is the 1500m and I enjoy both track and cross country. I compete in distances from 800m to Half Marathon. My half marathon personal best is 1:12:38. Running has always been my passion. I love the feeling of reaching a personal best and pushing myself further than ever before. I began running in 6th grade and worked my 1600m time down to 5:02 by 8th grade. Since then I've run 3:59 twice for the 1500m. I am confident that I have the potential to continue my steady progress throughout college.
The trait that describes me best is noble. I hold myself to a higher standard than other athletes. I put in the work during practice each day, yet I also keep a nutritious diet and a quality sleep schedule. I strive to achieve daily and push my limits in every workout. This is the major reason I've maintained such a steady level of success. Although I am highly focused on track, I am an honors student and education is also a top priority. I am also an active member in my church.
I am noble in the way I interact with coaches and other athletes. I don't let the numerous training styles fog my vision. I listen to one voice: that of my coach. I understand the team aspect of track and I enjoy running the 4x800m relay. I respect every athlete on the track team. No single athlete could win a meet; winning takes the combined efforts of the entire team.
