Personal Statement
I've been running since the summer of my sixth grade year in school, and after that summer I was hooked. I joined track my seventh grade year and wasn't too good, so I trained hard over that summer and joined cross country my eighth grade year. In cross country, I quickly became the best of the junior high team, and in track that year even the school's junior high 1600m record. My freshman year is when I began serious about the sport, becoming part of the first team from Beebe High to win the 5A east conference cross country meet and earned All-conference honors as a freshman. In track that year, I re-broke my 1600m run record and ran up with the senior high team.
In my sophomore year, I stepped it up in running and in the classroom. I currently have a 3.8 GPA for the year, which includes four honors/Pre-AP classes. The classroom is very important to me, I don't ever think of running until the classwork is done for the day, unlike my freshman year. I went from A's and B's to solid A's. Running only got more serious for me though, I have my goals of making All-Conference, All-State, and breaking my school's 5k record. Although I didn't finish my sophomore cross country year the way I wanted, I became very successful in indoor/outdoor track and field. I shaved a lot of time off my three events. I went from 11:42 to 10:29.49 in the 3200m Run; 5:18.00 to 4:51.41 in the 1600m; and 2:26 to 2:10.86 in the 800m Run. I became the fastest 3200m runner for Beebe since the record was broken in 2007.
I'm not the best and I know it, but I want a college that will push me to my best. I would also love a college with the ability to give me a above average education. If I had the chance to go to any college that offered me though, it would be the biggest honor. Running is my passion and if I a chance to do it for another four years after high school under a track/cross country program opposed to just being on my own would be amazing.
