My name is Cody Mayer. I am a senior track and cross country runner. I have been competing in running for the last 7 years. I have been on a variety of competitive teams, such as Excelsior Middle School (undefeated and league record holder for track and cross country for all 3 years), the Catholic Youth Organization (3rd place finisher in the 1600m and 1st in the 400m at the Oakland Diocese Championship Meet), United States of America Track and Field (5th place finisher in 4x800m at the USATF National Championship Meet in Sacramento in 2010, and 3rd place team finish at the USATF National Cross County Championship meet in Myrtle Beach NC.), and now for Liberty High School where I placed 5th in the 800m at the Meet of Champions at UC Berkeley 2013. I run a wide range of events from the 400m to the the 5k, and I have even raced in a few half marathons (1st place overall finisher at the first annual Brentwood Harvest Half Marathon Run 2011). My favorite race is the 1600 and the 800m. I finished first in my league at both distances at the varsity level during my 2012 sophomore season. I finished 2nd in my league in the 800m during my 2013 junior season.
I take my training and racing very seriously. I am always the first athlete to arrive at practice ready to run, and usually the last to leave; putting on a few extra miles after practice. I am extremely motivated and determined to run at the collegiate level and possibly in the Olympics one day. This motivation earned me rookie of the year during my 2011 track season, coaches award during my 2011 cross country season, most inspirational during my 2012 tack season, MVP during my 2012 cross country season, and MVP during my 2013 track season. I am an equally dedicated student. I am a member of the California Scholarship Federation and the National Honors Society at my high school. I finished each track and cross country season with the Athletic Director's Academic Award, and the sectional Scholar Athlete Award. I finished my sophomore year with a 4.0 which made my over all GPA 3.79. I am a team player and an informal leader on my team. I earned the 2012 track season team leader position on my team. I actively try to recruit more runners each year to enhance the size and competitiveness of our team. I also encourage my teammates to do their very best at practices and meets.
Although I would prefer to study near my family on the west coast, I feel traveling to other parts of the U.S. would be an exciting adventure and a great life experience. I have not narrowed down my major as of yet, but I do have an interest in studying environmental or earth sciences. My current athletic goal would be to join a competitive college track and/or cross county team and compete at an elite level during my schooling and beyond.
