Personal Statement
My goal for Track and Field is to get to the State Championships.
I have always been a team player and I am a captain of my 2014 cross country team and track team as a junior. Whenever my coach tells me to do speed work or mileage, I make sure to take other runners with me that are my caliber or under and make sure they get a strong workout in too. To me, track is not an individual sport; track is a team sport and I respect and honor that. I try to get as many points as I can up on the board but I also try to push other people to get on the board too. Finally many people run track and field and cross country because it looks good on their college applications but I do not feel that way. I run because i love to run. I love pushing myself to the brink and feeling accomplished after races. That is the way that I am different from most of the athletes of my caliber; I love to run and once I have my mind set on a goal I will accomplish it no matter what obstacles I would have to hurdle over to get me there.
Inside of me I have this spirit that drives me and makes me want to be one of the best runners in the league and eventually in college divisions. I have been told that I am one of the most competitive people on the team and that I use my competitiveness as a fuel for me to try harder and push deeper inside to make me a better runner. I did not start of as a talented runner in the 800 Meter dash. My personal record freshman year was a 2:18 and I was very disappointed in myself. That is when I started to realize that I have to do something about this; at this pace I am not going to make the state championship. That's the reason I pushed myself to the limit and started to gain muscle and got a new personal record of 2:04.53 in MVAL (Mission Valley Athletic League) League Championships for varsity and placed third. My drive to push myself to the limit and reach my goal is unbeatable and makes me different than all the other recruits.
