Personal Statement
I started running my freshman year by doing cross country. I made the Varsity team and I showed a lot of potential. Unfortunately, I didn't follow through on it. I walked at many practices, and wasn't committed. My PR ended up as 18:40, although it could have been better. My track season showed slight improvement. I ran Varsity again, but still didn't show anything special. My PRs were a 5:08 mile and an 11:08 2 mile.
My sophomore year showed vast improvement. I finally took responsibility and chose to be serious. However, I tripped during a practice and broke my wrist. I had to sit out for a month due to the doctor's orders. I eventually came back with 2 weeks left in the season, and ran a 17:25 at regionals. My track season was much better. I felt a need to make up for what I couldn't do for cross country season. I won the majority of my races. I ran a 2:05 800m, and a 4:36 mile. I went to the AAU Junior Olympics later that year to end my track season. I ran a 2:01 800m, a 4:09 1500m, and a 9:10 3000m. I took 4th place in the 1500m and 3rd place in the 3000m.
My junior year is showing a lot of potential. I opened the season with a 16:05 5000m. I went on to get a PR of 15:38 for the 3 mile. I finished in 3rd place overall at league finals. It was a huge jump from last year. I went from getting 33rd my Freshman year, to 20th my Sophomore year, all the way to 3rd. I plan on being the league champ my Senior year. I did well at CIF too. I ran 15:52 at a hilly course named Mt Sac, where regional championships are held and got 14th out of 110. My team didn't place within the top 6, so I wasn't able to move on. I want to get in the 14:00s next year at regionals, and qualify for State individually. Track and field went great. I have gone from a 4:36 1600m, to a 4:14 1600m, and from a 2:01 to a 1:54. I hope to get 4:05 or better my Senior year, and I will work VERY hard to achieve this. I want to get under 4 minutes when I'm in college as a freshman.
I have only been running for 2 years serious, and have shown great times. I know that if I increase my training when I move into college, that I will improve even more. Running is my passion, so I will do everything possible to improve. I want to be able to inspire others with my running, and maybe even run professionally in the future. I sincerely believe that God has used running to change my life for the better. I don't know what lies in the future, nor do I worry. If running doesn't work out, I want to either pursue a career in Medicine, Law, or Liberal Arts.
