Personal Statement

Since my freshman year, I have been modeling our schools P.R.I.D.E. slogan, which stands for Purpose, Responsibility, Integrity, Duty and Excellence. I have the purpose to go out everyday whether it is a good or bad day and still be the best I can be. I have been given the responsibility to take new athletes in track and show them what we are all about at Murrieta Mesa. I have the integrity to not cheat myself or cut the workout half short when the coaches turn their back. I have the duty to not be the best I can be, but try and make others the best they can be. I have the excellence whether it be track or school I always try to achieve excellence. My junior year, I  received the Murrieta Mesa P.R.I.D.E award, for living this model.

My mindset on and off the track is to never give up. I push through even when I am tired or feel defeated. I take risk and I am not afraid to ask for help from my coaches or teachers. I do not believe in shortcuts, people only cheat themselves when they take shortcuts, I give it 110 percent at all times. In Fact, that is why my coach gives me captain duties such as: leading stretches or help run workouts. If I see someone doing the wrong stretch ,or, if they do not know how to do the stretch, I show them because every little detail counts to make someone better. Being able to receive help from coaches has improved my time drastically. In my freshman year, my best time for the 100 meter was 12.4 seconds; ultimately, I have improved a lot. My junior year I ran a 10.88(100 meter), and a 22.24(200 meter), and set the school record in the 200 meter. Also, I was apart of a 4x1, team which went all the way to Master and we set the school record there with a time of 42.05. Being on the 4x4 team allowed me to go to the CIF Finals and set a school record with 3.21.56. I had many goals coming into high school and I have achieved most of them. However, my biggest goals is making it to the next level, college.

As for academics, I take school very seriously. I have been in AVID my four years of high school. The strategies I have learned have helped me stay organized and study for tests. I am not only a leader in track, but in the classroom. I set good examples for the incoming freshmen who are in AVID and underclassmen. I received my first C in my freshman year and it was a real eye opener for me when I began thinking about applying to college. Nonetheless, I grew and since sophomore year, I have been maintaining a 4.0 and would like to continue that throughout high school.
