Personal Statement
I ran my first year of track and field during my sophomore year in high school. In the beginning of the season I mainly ran the 100m and the 4x100 relay. Towards the end of the season my coach decided to let me try the 200m, and I quickly realized the 200m would be my primary event. That year I recorded a time of 23.37. In my second year of competition I was able to get my personal best time down to 22.27. My junior year season was coming to an end with only two meets left and I asked my coach if he would put me in the 400m. I ended the season with a personal best of 51.32 and winning league champion. My goals are and have always been to compete to the best of my abilities, and to run at a strong collegiate level. I work hard both on the track, and in the classroom. I am not perfect and I have had to find ways to succeed by doing some things differently, and by figuring out what works for me. I don't let things such as my learning disabilities or my injuries stop my from reaching my goals. They are not excuses, or a weakness. I use them to make me stronger in other areas. I don't see failure as any kind of option. I feel that I am far from reaching my full potential in track. I am still young to the sport, and am open to learning. I will do what it takes to reach my goals on the track, in life, and in anything else I may pursue.
