Personal Statement

I have been a high achieving student athlete my whole life. I have performed greatly in both of my primary sports, cross-country and baseball, and maintained GPA above a 4.0 throughout my high school career. Currently I have a 4.1 GPA. During my freshman year, I ran cross-country and track along with playing for my high school's marching and symphonic band. I was determined to do well in all of them, and it paid off when I was awarded student athlete of the year and best student musician of the year. The next school year, I was team captain of Del Mar High School's cross-country team. We were a small but effective team, for we made it to the Central Coastal Section (CCS) race where I got 17th place. By this point, I decided that I wanted to focus more on academics and sports so I let go of school music. This was a challenging year for me because I was taking all honors classes with AP Physics along with trying out for the baseball team in the spring. Baseball has been one of my favorite sports of all time. I have been playing baseball for almost nine years now, and my main position was and still is center field. I started and was the team captain of the JV team until I took a fastball to my left hand and broke it. This last cross-country season, I made it to CCS again, however I sprained my ankle during the race, and I went from 9th place to 29th place. Now at the beginning of my second baseball season at Del Mar, I am starting in left field and rotating to center field for the varsity team. I am also in the starting line up at the 7th spot. Moreover, I am taking vigorous classes such as AP US History and AP Calculus. The point is, I am a very determined and a hard working student who shows leadership on the field and off the field. I am very coachable and committed to my sports, while I maintain my grades. As a junior, I am both mature and intelligent, yet I am far from reaching my full potential. Every year I have improved at my sports and I think that by college, I will be ready for either cross-country or baseball at a superior level, knowing that I will most likely have to fully commit to just one sport, the one that will get me the farthest in my athletic career. Thank you for your time.
