Personal Statement

My name is Michael Garcia and I am currently 17 years old. I am 5' 6" tall and I weigh around 128 pounds. I am now currently a senior (Class of 2016) at Great Oak High School and I compete at the varsity level for the track and cross country teams.
My collegiate goals are to make a varsity track team and help make the team and myself more competitive. I have a great attitude and know I will get along well with my teammates and gain the trust of the coaches. Although I have only been running since the end of my sophomore year, these past 2 years have helped me develop a strong passion for the sport. Each season I have set multiple PR's in all my events, I am constantly improving my running technique and skills. I am a very hard worker and take my training, nutrition and workouts seriously. Because of these attributes and a strong work ethic, I know this will make me an integral part of any cross country and track program. I know I have the ability to compete at the collegiate level and continue to improve to make it as an elite level athlete. I believe I can be successful at the next level and proudly represent my school. I believe that I can and will make the standards of most Division I schools by the time my high school career ends.
I believe what sets me apart from other recruits is my discipline as a result of my upbringing within a Military and religious family. My father is currently on active duty and has served more than twenty years in the United States Marine Corps. Because of this, I have been overseas to Japan for 3 years when my family and I were stationed there. Although it was early in my life, I'm grateful to have seen another culture. I am also involved with my church outside of school. I volunteer and assist with the soup kitchen on a regular basis. My faith is also a driving force I use to help me reach my goals. Another factor that sets me apart from other recruits is my lack of experience in running. I have only been running for two years now and with no experience in any other sports. Because of this, I believe there is still tons of room for improvement in my abilities.
I believe the skills and discipline I have help me to excel in my classes. My favorite high school subjects are US History and Government. I am taking an AP class now and will take more before graduation. So far, I have taken both the SAT and the ACT this year (both scores can be viewed on my profile). I know I can maintain a GPA to keep me academically qualified to run for any program. I am currently interested in pursuing a career in the Science field. Beyond that, I have not yet selected a major field of study.
For the coaches reading this. I want you to know if you bring me on to your team and into your college you will be making an excellent choice. I have made it evident over these last couple seasons that I can make big jumps/improvements in my performances so far. Luckly for me, I still have two more seasons left to shave off as much time as I can. I look forward to communicating with you about your team, your team's accomplishments and hearing about any opportunities to make myself a part of your program.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
